Joey Tkach, trumpet, is a junior music performance major at Baylor University. Prior to Baylor, Joey attended the Interlochen Arts Camp, where he served as principal trumpet of the World Youth Symphony Orchestra, was named the 2nd place winner in the Interlochen Concerto Competition, and was awarded the prestigious Interlochen Maddy Summer Artist Award.

During his time at Baylor, he has won 1st place in both the small and large trumpet ensemble divisions of the National Trumpet Competition, as well as 2nd place in the Undergraduate Solo Division. He was also named a winner of Baylor University’s Semper Pro Musica Competition in both the Solo and Ensemble Divisions, granting him the opportunity to perform in the winners’ recital at Carnegie Hall. Joey has been a semi-finalist in the Houston Symphony’s prestigious Ima Hogg Concerto Competition, was one of three finalists in the International Trumpet Guild’s Orchestral Excerpts Competition, and was the trumpet winner of the 2018 Yamaha Young Artist Competition. He has been a fellow at the Bay View Music Festival, the Hot Springs Music Festival, and was recently named a finalist in the Ictus International Trumpet Competition.

In addition, Joey is a member of the Sol Brass Quintet, which was recently invited to attend the Mountain Light Music Festival in Colorado to study with and perform alongside the Baylor Brass. He is also an active composer, his most recent work being a brass quintet entitled: “Skylights,” which was written specifically for Sol Brass. Joey currently teaches privately in Waco ISD, and enjoys watching his students grow to their full potential.
